Anymore
A personal remembrance of some awful events a few years ago - and the mainstream response
Anymore
That night I could have been there,
I was lucky to be elsewhere
Staccato rhythms join the song
Then he knows that something’s wrong
An eagle, he can fly the stage
But not everyone is saved
The music’s over, one last slow
A symphony of crimson ends the show
The yielding Sting is quick to strike.
The peaceniks fight to take the mic
Flowers, prayers, conciliation
From a suicidal nation
Don’t cry ‘cause we won’t hear you.
Don’t look ‘cause we can’t see you.
We lie so you can’t be you.
Just die ‘cause we don’t need you...anymore.
That night she could have been there
A girl who was combs her hair
She’s been waiting for so long
Miming to her favourite songs.
Her little, painted nails are broken
In a hail of nails explosion.
Lost among the crowd in pieces,
Screaming like grandmother at The Beatles.
Don’t cry ‘cause we won’t hear you.
Don’t look ‘cause we can’t see you.
We lie so you can’t be you.
Just die ‘cause we don’t need you...anymore
A field of flowers on the ground
Icons, candles, futile sounds
Another anthem of conciliation
From another suicidal nation
Happy holidays from Babel,
Close your roads, forget your fables
Miracles can’t happen here
Concrete Christmas, the gift of fear
That night you could have been there
Soon it will be everywhere
Now it’s time to say, “No more!”
End the slaughter, close the door!
Is this a generic tragedy or a specific event like Battaclan, Manchester, or even that Travis thing in America…..In my mind I see it as Manchester bombing…..Whatever it says what needs to be said..
