Really sweet little story, with just enough edge to make it feel traditionally fairy-like, will read some others when I get time. Was there a reason you chose the Arabic name Malik? And did you consider sticking to just local mythic figures, or is the idea that the Winter Queen is a global power?
Cheers. I started writing the series a few years ago when I was less concerned with tradition. The protagonist is minor Eastern-European nobility of undisclosed origins. I thought the name sounded exotic at the time. I did think of ret-conning him but there would be too much to change. I guess he can start referring to himself as "Mal"
The premise is that mythical figures manifest according to local beliefs (which are in turn based on memories of a mythical past). The Winter Queen holds sway in parts of Europe while other figures will have a similar role in other parts of the world and they may or may not be different manifestations of the same archetype. It's intentionally vague as no one is meant to know how it works.
Got you, it does mean King, I just wondered whether you had a reason for it! I think naming will be very important going forwards.
And the reasoning behind the psycho-spiritual manifestations makes perfect sense and is really cool, also means that he could interact with "foreign" spirits, those who are lost and uncomfortable in a land not their own, or even lashing out at the unfamiliar nature/people around them.
Btw, I noticed he took the silver bullets, felt like I’d contributed in a small way, lol.
You did - cheers!
Nice work Lumi 👍🏻

Thank you but I have no idea what format is what, lol. How can I pay you, I’m in Australia?
I can do pdf, rtf (word), mobi (kindle), epub (Apple) or just plain text - no charge
I love it, but I don’t want to buy from Amazon? Don’t want to give Bezos any more money.
I can send you a copy. What format do you prefer?
I’m speechless
He remembered the silver bullets this time
